prohormonesMany people don’t have any clue what prohormones are. Often, they mistake methylated oral anabolic steroids with prohormones. Methylsten, DMZ, Mithras, Trenavar among others are only steroids sold under different brands to confuse or trick authorities and consumers. The reason why methylated steroids are the worst kind is that methylation can damage the liver. Steroids taken orally are more hazardous compared to injectables. Real prohormones are the most ideal and safest option as they taken sublingually.

What are Prohormones?

Prohormones are known as precursors of a hormone.  On the other hand, steroid hormones are made from cholesterol. Usually, prohormone are pro-DHT or pro-testosterone, which is the most abundant naturally-occuring male steroid hormone. Keep in mind that steroid hormones labelled as prohormone are not real pro-, they are only active steroid hormones.

Today, selling hormones is illegal, except for birth control pills. However, it is legal to sell supplements that are:

  1. One that naturally occurs in the body
  2. Not an active hormone

The legal and safe prohormones are the non-methylated form that your body generates in the process of producing testosterone and other highly potent hormones that are found in the body.

A real prohormone will be turned into the specific desired hormone when it enters your body. Every prohormone does unique task. So it is important that you choose the one intended for your goal. Keep in mind that all claims are 100 percent dependent upon proper exercise and diet. Also, consult your healthcare provider before taking any prohormone supplement.

testosterone supplements Are testosterone supplements truly effective? Sadly no. Many guys think they can just pop a few “natural enhancers” and their T levels will magically increase. If you’re eating garbage, not exercising, and not getting enough sleep, no amount of testosterone supplements is going to help your testosterone levels reach optimal levels.

Does the FDA Approve or Test Testosterone Supplements?

No. Supplement manufacturers, and distributors, have no FDA testing or approval requirements. Since there is no testing, there is not the same type of oversight on medications that go through rigorous testing programs before it can be released to the public.

These rigorous testing programs also limit what pharmaceutical companies can and cannot say when marketing their products which oversight supplement companies do not have to worry about. When Hormone Therapeutics prescribes Testosterone and other hormones these products are created and tested in sterile laboratories and marketing regulations are very specific on what one can and cannot say as far as the efficacy of the product. A Supplement firm is only responsible for ensuring, ON THEIR OWN, that:

  • The testosterone supplements are safe
  • Claims are not false or misleading
  • The supplement complies with FDA regulations

Essentially, they are allowed to police themselves and only under scrutiny if someone complains.

Testosterone Supplements We Believe In

testosterone supplements Vitamin D3

Vitamin D3 is actually a hormone and not a vitamin. Vitamin D3 provides a whole host of health benefits. We naturally make vitamin D from the sun, but only when we are outside. Studies are showing we getting sub deprived as Westerners spend more time inside. Sunscreen also inhibits vitamin D3 production which can hinder testosterone production. Studies have shown that men who take Vitamin D3 supplements see a boost in testosterone levels.

testosterone supplements Omega-3 Fish Oil

Fish oil lower SHBG and increase LH (Luteinizing Hormone) production. LH is the key precursor hormone triggering the gonads to produce testosterone. It’s a good fat and great for the heart.

testosterone supplements Whey Protein + Creatine shake

Whey protein in an unsweet coconut milk shake with a scoop of creatine is a good pre workout to fuel muscles and help them rebuild afterwards.

 Testosterone Supplement We Deem Unnecessary

testosterone supplements Vitamin C

There are many internet ads touting Vitamin C’s benefits for “how to increase testosterone”. Most of us get enough Vitamin C from our diets and the only studies we found that showed Vitamin C increasing testosterone levels was in diabetic mice. So, if you are a diabetic mouse, up your Vitamin C.

DHEADehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) is a naturally occurring hormone produced in the body. Secreted by the adrenal glands, it is precursor to other hormones and is transformed by the body into specific hormones once it reaches the target tissue. As a prohormone, most of it effects are related to its end products as opposed to DHEA itself.

DHEA is gaining traction as an anti-aging supplement. It is also being explored as a treatment for several of the health conditions associated with aging.

DHEA and its effects

DHEA is often touted as a “youth restoring” hormone because of its reputation for slowing down the age process, improving general energy levels and cognitive skills.  Because of this, many see it as a solution to regulate the side effects of aging and hormone depletion.

DHEA supplementation has shown an increase in energy, cognitive concentration, greater muscle mass/retention and slowing down the progression of Alzheimer disease. DHEA has been shown to have an influence on erectile dysfunction and lack of sex drive. In addition, Men with low DHEA more often experience depression as well as higher risks for overall mortality, including heart failure and cardiovascular threats.

DHEA Decline with Age

Unfortunately, DHEA production declines as its importance increases. DHEA production reaches its highest point during the 20s, but as one grows older, the body’s DHEA production  decreases, leaving as little as 20% of the healthy output by the time one reaches 70.

Since it is a precursor to other hormones, this decline leads to a corresponding effect in other hormones as well. Estrogen and testosterone synthesis, in particular, wane once the DHEA levels decrease. This brings forth several consequences for both sexes. In men, specifically, age-related DHEA decrease leads to a decline in testosterone secretion. This decline is compounded because of the larger role DHEA plays in the production of testosterone as we age.

DHEA Supplements and their Effects

From trials, DHEA supplements have been shown to increase muscle mass, strength and physical well-being in general. In addition, tests of increased concentration, in men and women, have been shown to improve sexual potency and mood, with women experiencing less menopausal symptoms after taking supplements. Overall, DHEA has been seen as an anti-aging supplement, providing bone and muscle strength, better moods and immune system and increased memory.

When tested on patients with diabetes and neurological disorders, DHEA was not seen to improve erectile function and potency in patients. It has also been shown to exhibit minimal side effects such as mild acne, swollen ankles and increased facial hair in some women.

The effect of long term treatment on cardiovascular conditions and hormone-dependent tumors has not yet been studied, or have yielded conclusive results.

DHEA Frontiers

DHEA supplements for anti-aging purposes are currently gaining traction. As a precursory hormone, it is seen by many as a way to regulate hormone balance within the body. In addition, DHEA’s reputation in increased bone and muscle strength, as well as energy, has many physicians exploring DHEA supplements and its effect on bone growth, depression, and other mood and cognitive disorders.
