Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, commonly called HCG, is an important hormone for sexual development. While it is more commonly thought of in conjunction with women as it affects fertility and ovulation, it also plays an important role in Hormone Replacement Therapy for men. HCG is a secretogue that naturally causes your body to produce more testosterone and sperm. Because of this, many HRT specialists will prescribe it for men for fertility purposes as well as encouraging the body to continue to produce testosterone.

HCG and Testosterone Therapy

In Testosterone Replacement Therapy, HCG is typically used to encourage the Leydig cells of the testicles to produce more testosterone and either maintain or return to one’s normal levels. HCG acts similarly to Luteinizing Hormone, or LH, in males as it also signals to the testicles to produce more testosterone. It is also commonly used to maintain the body’s natural production of testosterone and sperm for men that still have the capacity to increase their natural levels. Males that have abused testosterone, and other hormones, for body building or weight lifting through supraphysiological dosages have tricked their bodies into believing there are adequate amounts of testosterone in the body. If this is done at supraphysiological levels, and for too long, not only does your body slow down its production but it can bring it to a halt. HCG is often prescribed alongside Testosterone Replacement Therapy or used to kick start the body’s production. Testosterone Therapy is also frequently used with HCG to maintain or normalize testicular size and can help men who whose sex drive does not increase enough on testosterone alone. TRT does not require cycling because it starts slow and builds to levels under the guidance of a physician that should not jeopardize them. HCG is an important hormone to use for men who still want to have babies and maintain their fertility.

HCG is frequently used for weight loss purposes by men and women although this is still controversial and not FDA approved so we do not prescribe HCG solely for weight loss. HCG is mixed in our pharmacy and shipped to our patients, refrigerated and then injected subcutaneously into the thigh, stomach or arms.

Is your Physician knowledgeable about prescribing HCG with TRT?

We are contacted frequently by patients of physicians who do not know about or will not prescribe HCG. These are not TRT specialists or experts and we recommend working with a physician who understands how and when to prescribe it. These physicians should also be knowledgeable about and prepared to prescribe other TRT support medications and ED drugs like Tri-Mix if needed.

Hormone Therapeutics prefers to manage your entire HRT and TRT solution, however, if you want to maintain your Testosterone Replacement Therapy with your current physician but cannot get support medications like Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG), anastrozol, Viagra, Cialis, Tri-Mix or other ancillary support medications through your physician please give us a call for assistance and we will be happy to help you achieve an optimal hormone balance anywhere in the US.
